ASTM International UAE Chapter co-hosts Webinar with FCIA

The ASTM International UAE Chapter and the Firestop Contractors International Association (FCIA) teamed up with key industry leaders from the International Code Council (ICC), Thomas Bell-Wright International, FM Approvals, and Underwriters Laboratories for the FCIA-ASTM Virtual Fire-Resistance-Rated and Smoke-Resistant Assemblies & Existing Buildings Event. This was the first-ever joint event to heighten awareness of fire and life safety in existing buildings through education on fire-resistance-rated and smoke-resistant assemblies.

Building owners invest in proper design, installation, and inspection during new construction. Many routine building operations focus on maintaining the visible active fire protection; but passive fire protection systems in existing buildings, like fire-resistance-rated and smoke-resistant assembles, are often overlooked when maintenance plans and budgets are developed. These critical life safety systems must also receive the same annual attention as other important safety elements.

This abridged program, a preview for a full-length seminar in 2021, was specially designed for Building Owners and Managers, Municipality Officials, Civil Defence, Architects/Engineers, Specifiers with Design Firms, Specialty Firestop Installation Contractors and Special Inspection Agencies. The program focused on key fire code requirements for maintaining protection.
